About Department

Established in 1982, the Department of Home Science has grown into a dynamic centre of learning, providing students with quality education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills and real-life applications. The department offers undergraduate education in Home Science with a student strength of 16, focusing on holistic development, skill enhancement, creativity, employability and entrepreneurship.

The department adopted the curriculum based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in 2024, providing students with a flexible, multidisciplinary and skill-oriented learning experience. In 2026, the department is introducing the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme(AEDP) to further strengthen students’ employability, communication, professional and entrepreneurial skills.

The department provides a conducive learning environment with two classrooms, one well-equipped laboratory and one storeroom with practical resources and equipment. Students are encouraged to gain hands-on experience and develop practical competencies in different areas of Home Science, connecting classroom learning with everyday life and future professional opportunities.

The department regularly organizes seminars and other academic activities by inviting knowledgeable and experienced resource persons from relevant fields. These programmes provide students with wider exposure, opportunities to interact with experts and learning beyond the classroom.

Through academic teaching, practical training, experiential learning, skill-development activities and expert interactions, the department strives to develop competent, confident, creative and self-reliant students and prepare them for higher education, employment, entrepreneurship and meaningful contribution to society.
